As I’m trying to cook and bake more at home, I discovered all the things the wonderful, magical Crock Pot can make – including Apple Butter!
I had to play around a bit, but settled in this recipe and love the result. I use it a lot for desserts and as a spread on my morning waffles!
Homemade Apple Butter
Ingredients: You will need…
- 5 peeled apples (I used medium-sized envy apples)
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup light brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp nutmeg
- A pinch of ground cloves
- A pinch of salt
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
Directions: To begin…
- Place the chopped apples in your slow cooker.
- In a bowl, mix together the sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Pour over the apples and stir to coat.
- Cook on low for about 8-10 hours, stirring occasionally, until thick and dark brown.
- Stir in vanilla and cook uncovered on low for another 1-2 hours to let it thicken more.
- Blend with an immersion blender or food processor until smooth.
- Store in mason jar (up to 2 weeks in the fridge) or freeze for longer shelf life.
