At Home Sushi Night Recipe

One of the few recipes that I still recall from my home economics class in high school is how to make sushi! Seafood is one of my favorite food categories, so I have loved to make sushi at home every now and then.

What is also fun about this recipe is that you can add and change ingredients to your liking. Below are the ingredients I used and how to assemble a sushi roll.

At Home Sushi Roll

Ingredients: You will need…

  • Nori
  • Sushi Rice
  • Cucumber
  • Shrimp
  • Surimi
  • Homemade Sauce: 3/4 Mayo, 1/4 Sriracha or to taste, and a little bit of honey (we make about 1/4 cup worth of sauce)
  • Sliced Carrots (I did not have any at the time of making this recipe, but love to add it in!)

*You will also need a sushi mat to roll these into shape.

Directions: To begin…

  • Add your sticky rice on your nori. The nori should be placed shiny side down on the sushi mat. I use a big spoonful at first and add more as needed to cover about 3/4 of the area, leaving space at the top for sealing the roll.
  • Cut your cucumber in strips and line it horizontally along the middle of your nori. For shrimp, split it in half to add it across (I use 2 1/2 per roll).
  • Add your surimi on top and on the sides. I use flaky surimi as I also use it for poke bowls!
  • Lastly, add the sauce to the bottom half of the nori. Feel free to add more or less!
  • To roll, I like to add a bit of water to the edge of the nori at the top before rolling, so once it is fully rolled the wet part seals the roll. Take your time in this step! I like to put plastic wrap around the sushi mat for easy clean up and better grip.
  • With any remaining rice and ingredients, I like to make a mini poke bowl!
  • Serve with soy sauce and enjoy!
